99 Problems? Sure, but you will love every one: FPS Wars – Round 2

The beta for BF3 went live a week ago, and although I played this a few months ago in Los Angeles at E3 this year, it is a very different experience playing with those you know, on your own equipment, and generally with the hype that has surrounded the game since E3. I’ve had time to digest the issues that DICE currently face, as well as the general thoughts of gamers, and Iíve also taken in the readings of many published articles.

I’ve played for a good few hours now, and in fact in recent times have played more hours of Battlefield 3′s beta than I have of any other game in my library of options. Competitive Gaming – feast or famine?

Gaming around the world has come under the spotlight more this year than it has in previous years. There are many reasons for this ranging from social networking through to the global recession leaving fewer companies in the gaming industry and thus more emphasis going to fewer titles through to the sparsity of games meaning more emphasis on the limited good releases. From a social perspective, the growth experienced through companies taking advantage of the numerous easy to follow formats to keep in touch with their followers in the twittersphere and on Facebook has meant quicker message and information delivery, better availability of this information, and certainly easier communications back to developers and publishing companies which has been unheard of in the past. It’s been a busy week in gaming land, and during the weeks of the big shows one tends to get information overload. But that said, the various pieces of news are always exciting to read, hear and see, and Gamescon has been no exception for 2011 as it consolidated a lot of the news we saw at E3 and have seen in the last month or so since E3.

Battlefield 3 shone bright and came away with huge accolades from the show. This is even more good news for the ever popular franchise, and with the announcements they made, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that the development of BF3 is both fun and rewarding for EA and DICE as they get closer and closer to a beta and then release. The announcement of the commo/comm/communications rose being implemented into the game was more than likely a deal maker for many BF hardcore fans, but then they went and showed off. They brought out a trailer built from gameplay, and out came the jets. Oh the jets. Beautiful jets…… Aaaaaannnnddddd I’m back…… But they are beautiful…… The last major piece of awesome was the release of the facts sheet. Doing this is a very clever move from EA and I have nothing but respect for the marketing machine behind this game.
