Semi-Professional Gaming – a follow up
Just under three weeks ago, I wrote an article which outlined a concept on Semi-Professional Gaming and how this could be integrated in to gaming based on the current state of most competitive organisations, the players who compete, and their teams. The ideas and foundation for this concept when introduced were largely lost on many given I probably gave gaming communities too much credit for one thing – thinking outside the box. What I mean by this, is that the concept was all about the bigger picture, and in writing that concept article, I forgot the reality that 80% of gamers I see in action on a day to day basis are only concerned with themselves and short term wants or solutions. So given this, I thought a follow up article would be a valid piece of writing to give extra depth to the whole concept of semi-professional gaming in this part of the world.
Semi-Professional Gaming – a concept, or a dream?
Over the Christmas and New Year break, I sat myself down in front of the TV, and watched a lot of cricket. T20 in fact. Big Bash T20 to be precise, and some NZ HRV Cup when the weather wasn’t being horrid. While watching the cricket I started thinking – they have a semi-pro structure, cricket in general does too, most sports do, or are starting to….. why can this structure not be implemented in to gaming to steadily assist the progression of competitive gaming.
The concept in T20 cricket is not dis-similar to that of what CGS had a number of years ago, and what other sports implement in general. However, rather than going full frontal in to a complete professional set up like CGS was, the best way forward is to harness the growing gaming industry support, and the growing interest in what competitive gaming is becoming and can provide to sponsors, and to look at Semi-Professional Gaming League set up.
Thus, a progression that allows a league or tournament to grow with a League Administration, rule refinement and concept refinement is the best way to work through what is in effect a very business non-savvy community in general – full professionalism requires some business experience and structures to ensure all parties have protections in place. So with the above thoughts and information in place, the following has been grafted based on an initial white paper, and further discussion with various admins. More…
Gamestah CoD4 Highlight Reel #1
Season 6 of the CyberGamer Call of Duty 4 season has basically come to a close, and given Gamestah did a large number of casts for the leagues and I wanted to learn a bit of basic video editing, I pondered “why not put together a Gamestah highlights package?” And thus this video was created, as was an Arseynimz intro!
This compilation is only 3 matches of a around 20+ in the library to be edited, and I am slowly working through all the matches for the season to create a few more of these videos for the series. The idea was to combine a bit of action along with some of the stupidity that we put together in the Gamestah commentary. Enjoy!
Gamestah CoD4 Highlight Reel #2
The second in this series of CyberGamer Season 6 Call of Duty 4 Highlight reels. I learnt a lot during this one, and added a few extra bits and pieces to try out some effects.
This second compilation is again only 3 matches, and I have another 3 more matches of the regular season to edit, and then on to finals. Again, the idea is not to have a pro-edit, but more a bit of action along with some of the Gamestah hilarity. Enjoy!
